Key Findings

The Pediatric Gender Program, which began in 2014, offers puberty-blocking treatments and cross-hormone therapies for minors, as well as sex change surgeries for patients 18 and older. It includes a multidisciplinary team of pediatric endocrinologists, a psychologist, psychiatrists, a medical ethicist, and a lawyer. In 2023, it was noted “YPGP had provided care to 425 people.” The program is led by Dr. Christy Olezeski.

In 2015, Yale-New Haven Hospital started a “gender reassignment surgery program.”

Olezeski has stated that it is “completely normal for prepubescent children to explore their gender identity and expression.”

Olezeski has been widely criticized for a video, which has since been taken down, in which she stated that the Pediatric Gender Program “helps children as young as 3 years old with their ‘gender journey.’”

Olezeski has co-written an op-ed in which she argued that critical race theory should be taught to children.

In an op-ed Olezeski co-authored with Yale professors Meredithe McNamara and Anne Alstott, Olezeski opposed “anti-transgender” legislation. The trio suggests that medical organizations should work together with lawyers to push back against the efforts.
