Nationwide Children’s Hospital is a nonprofit hospital located in Columbus, Ohio. The hospital previously advertised “gender affirming reproductive health” and medical interventions to adolescents through its Team-driven Healthcare that Respects Individuals and Values Emotions (THRIVE) program. However, references to these procedures appear to have been removed from the hospital’s website; an archived version of the hospital’s website shows the hospital previously advertised puberty blockers and menstrual suppression. Claims data shows the hospital has billed for hormone therapy for minors. Ohio enacted age limits on “gender medical interventions,” including hormones, puberty blockers, and surgeries for children, after a judge ruled August 6, 2024, that the state’s law enforcing age limits for these interventions can go into effect.

For more information on the specific procedure and diagnostic codes and other methodology used to make these determination, read our white paper here.

References to these procedures appear to have been removed from the hospital’s website; an archived version of the hospital’s website shows the hospital previously advertised puberty blockers and menstrual suppression.

Dr. Scott Leibowitz, Medical Director of the THRIVE Program, has claimed “political intrusion” in transgender care.

In a leaked video, Leibowitz warned doctors against telling patients that “gender-affirming care” would improve their mental health.

Leibowitz also endorsed puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones, regardless of fertility concerns.
